The treescape of the Stort Valley is inevitably
dominated by the woodland that remains to us. Hatfield Forest and
Birchanger Woods have their own pages here (see panel to the left) and the
banks of the Stort are often wooded too. Our parks and
gardens are well planted with exotic and native trees as are many of our
streets. One of the best places for the tree enthusiast
is the Warwick Road area of Bishop's Stortford which was
planted up in a grid with giant Redwoods and Austrian Pines before
the houses were built. There are ancient trees to be
found in quite ordinary places and you can participate in the
national Ancient Tree Hunt if
you are interested.
